We took over a shopfront in Shoplatch, Shrewsbury last week as part of the Great Big Art Exhibition.
First Site's idea, The Great Big Art Exhibition is a national project where artists fill windows with artworks. The idea is to create lockdown exhibitions that people can see in passing.
I made a window for advent last year and this type of exhibition is for people in the street, not academics, it's art for everyone. I like people seeing my work, and this is for people walking by on their way to somewhere else. It's different to a gallery because people have no elevated expectations of art, it's as simple as whether they smile!
I painted lots of portraits of friends and family this year, I can't meet my friends because of lockdown and so these portraits are impressions of relationships mediated by computers.
If you're in the area, it's underneath the Market Hall on the North Side. I'd like to thank the Market Hall, they've been very generous in letting me use this space, it's right in the town centre. Come on and take a look, let me know what you think!
If you want to see more of my portraits, check out this gallery - Portraits and Selfies
