Put away neatly

Shropshire artist Grace Currie will be performing her piece Put Away Neatly at midday on July 2nd at the prestigious HOME gallery in Manchester. She joins 31 d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent artists set to disrupt 30 locations nationwide with surreal interventions, in recognition of the 102nd anniversary of the first DaDa International Exhibition of surreal and strange artworks.

Baschurch based Grace's perfomance is her powerful and funny take on the patronising remarks constantly made to people with disability with the best of caring intentions. "When you've heard 'Did you manage that all by yourself?' for the thousandth time you start to feel more and more helpless', says Grace, who experienced severe brain injury in a traffic accident several years ago but has recently graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Chester University and works full time as an artist.

The national competition for the interventions was organised by Disability Arts Shropshire (DASH). Grace chose HOME because, although she has lived in Shropshire for most of her life, her family come from Manchester. "It's great that such a big city with a thriving art scene knows that we can make world-beating art out here in the country', she added.

The performance on July 2nd at midday is free and everyone is welcome to join Grace in the HOME Gallery. It is part of the We Are Invisible We Are Visible (hashtag WAIWAV) run by DASH and funded by the Ampersand Foundation.
